Consistent with statute, all tax sales in Caldwell County are held on the first Tuesday of the month. The Caldwell County Commissioners have designated the location of these sales to be outside of the main entrance of the new Caldwell County Judicial Center located generally at 1703 S. Colorado Street, Lockhart, Texas 78644. Times of the sale should be verified but Caldwell County tax sales are usually held at 10:00 AM. Successful bidders at the sale are expected to tender their bid amount in the form of a money order, a cashier’s check or a personal check made payable to Linebarger Law Firm. Upon receipt of the successful bid amount the bidder will be provided a receipt verifying payment. Please note that if the successful bidder pays with a personal check, it may take a week or two longer for the deed to be filed as the check must clear the bank before we can proceed with finalizing the documents.
Property that is not sold at a tax sale and is struck off to the taxing jurisdictions in trust may be bid upon under the following guidelines:
If the property has been struck off at a tax sale in Caldwell County, and said property has not yet been to a tax resale auction, an interested buyer may purchase the property at the Caldwell County Appraisal District for the minimum bid PLUS any subsequent years that have become due. A $30.00 deed filing fee will also be collected in addition to the purchase amount. Once the deed is signed by the taxing entity to which it has been struck off, Linebarger will record the deed and a copy of the recorded deed will be mailed to the purchaser.
If the property has been put up for sale at a tax resale auction and did not sell at the tax resale auction, the Caldwell County Appraisal District will accept a bid from the interested buyer for a lesser amount. If a bid for a property is submitted for a lesser amount, the amount of the bid must be paid to Linebarger Law Firm upon submission. Once the bid and money is received, Linebarger Law Firm will submit a bid request to all taxing entities for that particular property; all taxing entities must approve the bid for the sale to be completed. If the bid is approved by all entities, we will call the purchaser when the deed is finalized. It will be the purchaser’s responsibility to pick the deed up from Sarah Haney at the Caldwell County Appraisal District, and the purchaser MUST have the original deed recorded in order for the legal ownership change to occur. If the bid is not approved by one or more taxing entities, the purchaser will be notified and the bid amount that was submitted will be returned to the purchaser. If this occurs, the property will remain struck off.

For any current tax sale, a property listing will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to the date of the Sheriff’s Tax Sale. This list may be obtained either at the Caldwell County Appraisal District Office at 211 Bufkin Ln, Lockhart, Texas 78644 or may also be located online at www.caldwellcad.org, listed under “Sheriff Tax Sale”.
Lists of struck off properties are available at the Caldwell County Appraisal District. A list of Struck-Off properties is also available online via the Caldwell County Appraisal District’s website at www.caldwellcad.org, listed under “Struck Off Tax Sale Properties”.
